yeps student welfare is needed…yet i can say that as far as i know all the promises made during elections are mostly false…can’t find any improvements brought at uom after the elections!!!!!!
Promises at the elections are just dreams that are sold to get votes.. thats all. I wonder why many students still believe these false promises.

Answer is not explicit. Provide a white paper on the matter (which will incl. the time spent to get things done, the amount of involvement of staff and student, etc..)
My point is – it’s easy and good to rant. You’ve done an excellent job in identifying problems. It’s time for you (not the frakin’ union – because you sincerely believe that you’re an ‘agent of change’) to bring up solutions in a detailed manner to the public which comprises of leaders, students, staff, gov, press, etc.
Only then will you cause the change and stop waiting for the universe to unfold by itself.

1. website or blog
This can be done by some of the SU members itself as I dnt think they find it so difficult to elect a webmaster in their team
of jerks. So the SU just have to get a webmaster in SU and with a website or more simple a SU BLOG…where the SU can update
news, events, sharing of information and allow student interaction! And a blog… is created in a matter of minutes!
Customising it..take only 1 hour!
2. magazine made by uom students
A monthly magazin will add some spice into the SU rare “logical” activities! Money? Not a real problem.. considering all the
money the SU get annually for its work. Well…monthly… i am more for a SU magazin each 3 months. Thats better. WHat to put
in the magazin… facts and event s held at the uni and many other university stuffs. Also about their expenditures and
future plans… however…My personal opinion: I will not buy a magazin for the SU!!! I have better jobs to do…!
3. Radio on Campus
Once upon a time some dudes decided to make it..then when they went away no one adopted the concept. Well I think it will be
a cool idea to have an internal UOM radio…which is broadcasted only in the UOM premises. Can install speakers
everywhere…and let it play at a PEACEFUL sound level with a variety of different songs..and news etc etc. Who will do it?
Why not also include a member of SU or any other to team to manage the radio on shift basis?? Equipment?? The SU is not a
POOR association buddies!!!!
4. Transport facilities
Yusha you must specify it well here what u mean by transport facilities! The government is already providing free transport.
However still…the buses are likt “lor ration!!” for certain destinations!! Also it will be good if the SU can negatiate
about having more buses on standby in the UNI parking at 16:00 till 18:00!!! And not only place ONLY ONE vacoas bus at
16:00!!! There is a big problem of people becoming human “dan boit sardine” dan sa ban bus la!! And my main problem…am a
bit anti human… grrrwwww…. so I dnt like all type of people being glued to me in the bus while i stand like a “porte
manto” dan bus!!! It will be good to USE the parking of uom to make more buses available at different time interval..in the
evening! Mostly because at these time most student are returning home..and it become a real mess on the bus stop!!
5. meetin faculty rep and class rep on a monthly basis
How?? Simple. The SU is to hold a regurlar monthtly meeting at its “headquarter” if i can call it.. and call all class
representatives… and discuss about rising problems and find solution. No need to held special…useless meeting which pay a
SU member rs 300 or more per meeting and doing nothing for students!!!! yea they get paid to attend meetings!!! And yet its
like shit at UOM!! Even after the paid meetings!! Meeting pou boir cafe mo croir!
6. One thing I add! – Food to students!
I think it will be good to have a happy hours! That is a time interval when food are at a cheaper price than normal. For example..lets say during the time 12hr to 13hr! They will not incur loss as the demand at these time is big..and they will sell more!
Ofcourse providing free food is not very logical! Also Another thing…the food at the UOM Cafetaria is pure SHIT!!! It will be good if they SU can do sm negotiation so that there are real cooks there. The food at MIE is half theprice at Cafe! For example…a mine frir at cafe is aroun rs50 but at MIE Cafe we get more noodles..and better quality at rs27 only!!! Thats only one example.

Proposals make an enlightened one disgusted about voting.

Good management, as you call it, is hindered by paper work, unsatisfied students/staff, gov, etc.
A good manifesto for enlightened voters isn’t really a manisfesto – it’s a concise document with proposals and rationales.
Do you want to change the status quo? Or do you like knowing that the mass consists of a bunch of dumbasses? Ouch, that sounds arrogant. Sorry.
Anyway, from the point of view of someone who is into political science/or future politician, can you please tell me how important are rationales to you?

The approach, IMO (I’m not into political sciences and I may be wrong,) cannot be thought of after one is elected. It’s lack of planning. If you’re about to argue about not having all the information at hand before the election (lame and common excuse IMO,) how does the one elected going to be more transparent and open?
OK If i was a politician .. let us say if i had to be the campaign manager of a politician … to make the politician win .. i would have proprosed just points which will make the candidate win .. like sellin dreams ,selling hopes …

Before you do politics…do know that there TWO type of people who vote a political candidate. One who always vote u “mem si li gagne cout de pied” and the other a neutral one who can change preferences at each election depending on how good you are at convincing!
Your answer abt going to see to PM…is NOT CONVINCING at all. It shows a lack of confidence buddy. Is it me who is the candidate.? is it me who need the votes?? No its YOU! 1) Why the tv set in the common is “untouchable”
2) Why is the CITS lab as if it comes from ice age and its a “vrai case tete” to use those pc.{Having to wait for a minimum of 2 to 3 minutes to see what you typed to appear on the screen.Well of course.What one typed on the keyboard}
Avoid telling me that there will be upgrades soon since I have already talked with some previous students and lecturers.The pc in CITS have been like that since ages.
3)Is the video surveillance, found in both the CITS corridor and the lab itself, working or is it just “faire joli”?
Since you’re the actual faculty rep, is there a way to meet you to discuss our problems?{Well not personal problems but professional problems concerning studies}
Like students being unhappy with the way some classes are conducted, and so on.

Previously, it was as free as a bird flying in da sky dr..but due to some pranks of a ill-mannered group of students, who were playing with da tv controls and trying to spoil the tv set, it has been shut down and restricted to students….because of 1 group, the rest are penalised….am i to be blame my frend????
2) Why is the CITS lab as if it comes from ice age and its a “vrai case tete” to use those pc.{Having to wait for a minimum of 2 to 3 minutes to see what you typed to appear on the screen.Well of course.What one typed on the keyboard}
Avoid telling me that there will be upgrades soon since I have already talked with some previous students and lecturers.The pc in CITS have been like that since ages.
Ok..sa me pa ti pu dir tw ever…well, 1st of all, as i said, only one server provide internet services…so, u IT students, u would no it better than me that to provide whole UoM with 1 server only, its a lost case my frend…and to upgrade sa, millions of mauritian rupees needed…our plean to admin fall to deaf ears…so personally, i would now try to bring somtg else…wait for this election manifesto out….coz innovative ideas are der….abt MOODLE, i have recently sent a letter to the dean following some students complains, am jus awaiting for the dean letter..i would let u all no…and ya tushal, i would like to meet you for creating a blog for da whole uom campus…thx u all for helping us to cater for the whole student community and bring all under a same common platform…
3)Is the video surveillance, found in both the CITS corridor and the lab itself, working or is it just “faire joli”?

Because we now adults dr frendz…we mus no how to prove ourselves….some1 hiding behind curtains to criticize…nope!!!pa sa…freedom of speech & expression, its ur RIGHT….
and ya, after we get elected, we mus no wat await us dr frendz…working out our manifesto and ya, dnt ever 4get, tackling with unexpected quandaries also form part, apart our manifesto…
for me, working in a team, a team of 2000 students, i mean in engineering, gna surely make every1 aware of each & every right we possess!!!!coz at each satge/step in our life, our rights are unlimited!!!!!
wat i did for past 1 year, i would like to go for it again and again…coz as i said earlier, discovering new talents and encouraging official complaints, its my aim, my ambition…i have worked for that endeavour and will keep working for it…..The clubs in engineering are da most active on campus…so guys, its high time we share opinion, we share ideas, we share frendship and togetherness in order to help ourselves…no selfishness, no enemity!!!!!!

I never wrote anywhere in my post that I’m blaming you.I have no idea from where you took that out.
Concerning the CITS, I was not referring to the internet.But to the pc itself.
Last week, we, CSEstudents, were doing a tutorial.
Just give you some interesting figures.
It took nearly 8 mins and some few seconds to restart the pc.
{Some idiots had the pleasure of removing the mouse wires from the CPU}
Acrobat reader took around 4 mins to open and openoffice writer took around 4 to 6 mins to open.
and the PCs are Pentium 4.! ! ! ! ! !WLOL
and today we have a writer test in that lab.
I badly need luck and patience.
But the PCs in the MCID lab are in good working conditions.
And lastly, I certainly approve of Yusha’s idea.Class rep and SU and faculty rep should be meeting at least once per month to discuss about the different problems they are facing in their everyday studies.
@Avish–>any idea where I can get some patience?Last week some students lost patience and hit the cpu! !They waited for +10 for writer to open.LMAO.

1)Student Union Election Debate.
In many countries, the SU election debates are organized by the “actual” SU president under the supervision of a group of neutral students.
I will be glad to “supervise” the SU election debate.
In case, none is willing to organize it, then I think that we, bloggers, will “met la main dan la pate” and organize it.
Most probably, it will be nice to have it 1 week before the election and in the auditorium.
2)Are there campaign rules?
In almost every elections there are campaign rules which must be strictly followed else that particular candidate is not allowed to take part for the election.
In one particular University, if a candidate spends more than x pounds during the campaign week and the returning officer is made aware, that candidate loses his “candidature”.
3)Who is the returning officer?{if any}
4)How do the candidates intend to promote their parties?
5)Manifesto?Where is it?
6)Voting
We, the first year, do not know where to go to vote and how to vote.Will there be a “tutorial” for us?
7)How is the count done?
8)Hustings procedure?
Do we have a hustings procedure for the election at UOM?
{Hustings procedure means question time}
9)Declaration of results.
How is this done?
counting, and safety abt keeping polling is quite done in a positive manner..the returning officer is some1 by the admin..so no prob….and students are present for the counting…i mean each grup has their reprentatives der to have a follow up of the countin!!!
