Seriously though, it’s politics. It’s meant to be like what you’ve described. Any enlightened being would become a pariah and live on, focusing on studies and work, without having to stress over elections.
“curtains in enginering tower” – is it the union who needs to buy curtains? does the uni not have maintenance reviews? students don’t require a union to issue complaints. if these are not well received, sue the uni. you’re all adults, right?
“Happy hours[ free drinks] in cafe” – too utopian. I believe water is free
Seriously though – a union giving away free drinks without mentioning the type of drink, is not a true union. a union should think of lobying for drinks and food which are “compatible” to the diabetes for e.g, to be served at the cafeteria.

I’ve a friend, Santaly, who tutors at your uni, and AFAIK, he’s working on something big in terms of e-learning. I’m unsure of how the union can offer such facilities, BTW. The union should be a forceful group ready to forward the current issues faced by students to those responsible. The union should kick ass.
“Transport facilities [ we still have this problem] ” – you folks, already have free bus passes. The only way the union can help, is to work closely with the NTA to find solutions to the transport issues. There’s nothing a union can do in regards to transport without support of and brainstorming with the folks at the NTA.
Maybe the union should have a complaints web site. That’s all. Nothing fancy – because it needs human touch

Well i think it says it all.
I was a student a UoM years ago, and believe me, things have not changed for the better.
The Fac Reps are not only invisible, but you hardly know who they are and how to get in tough with them.
They are politicians, can we honestly expect any thing else!
It would be disgusting if the elections take a communal perspective.
Time will tell!
Instead of organising events just for fun, there could be more activities for self-development for students.
When i was in the UK, there were free tutorial sessions for some subjects for students who were having difficulties in some modules. The Union of students would pay the tutors, and the students attending need not pay! Can we not have this?????
Anways, lets see what the promises are this time!

Gavin, most unis had rave (funded by houses not unions,) philanthropy activities, yes, helping out the students, trips in the wild (or beyond the borders,) crush parties, and there was a true sense of brotherhood/sisterhood.
I dunno if the above matches the UOM. Maybe the folks @ UOM need a model.
For the question pf pamphlets… ofcourse its financed bt political parties…
Simple concluding observation: When Party X is in power… Student Union party supported by party X have an extravaganza campaigne with hyper colours and all panphletes etc etc.. And the others which is financed by the opposition or other parties…are somehow hav less financial methods than the one powered by the governmental government!
I hope many of you understand what am saying here… i dnt wanna specify any specific party in this comment. But the fact is that they are financed by political parties…

hello kurt avish..jus a simple answer…wen comg in ur class for campaign this year, make sure u do ask questions abt how to complete the tentative proposed programme for students…coz personally, last year, i did respond to such questions of students concering my proposed programme and how gna do it…..

@ Nasif: Sure i know abt a manifesto buddy. The fact here is that we want more details about the HOW and the WHY. This is not for me. I am not against u or any particular candidate even though I have friends participating for the election. Ok agree you have just started the campaign…. so u will giv us yr proposals…then?? you just then explain how u intend to do it… i hope u dnt plan to THINK ABT IT after you won the election?
The aim here ON THIS BLOG is to ask you specific questions and also propose some ideas…but you must explain if it is feasable and how you can do it. This is to convince those who will vote you.
Abt doing something different for the UNI? Sure… Well lets take a very simple example. We vofe for you for what? to get help where needed. So I know its not the SU who must upgrade the old su**ing lab of cits.

Its the job of the administration if am nt wrong. So ALL of you know in wat state these labs are…its been YEARS. So why didnt u all negotiate and pressure the administration to do something. Was it so hard?
Assuming about 80 Pc in total for the labs… it will cost only about rs 1.2 million to get some power pc running there.
Is is too expensive for the uom admin…or is it too hard for you guys/girls to pressure the administration to do something?

Well kenny…if you are saying… then good to know you did do some meetings. Yea this is also a good point to note… most class rep dnt attend the meeting… however it is also good to note that 90% of students dnt use the UOM MAIL… so using the uom mail to share yr messages is really a bad idea..
Advice to those candidates for the election too this year: No need to spam the email folders with yr campaign…student dnt use it.
Btw to Kenny and other mates: It was not ethical to spam our mobile phone with campaign sms (from emtel free web sms) last year!I dnt know if many of you kno this…but i received lots of these sms and they are quite annoying as i hate unwanted msg in my inbox.
Change you rmethods this year.

..yep thx…My election team is the one who worked….and ya, as for CITS labs, i did many complaints, following students queries, but if mw m, despite repetitive endeavours, pa p gagn any answer, aster, zot p understand la…enfin, new printers available in cadcam, cisco lab la…and ya, some of ur points have been noted positively and am sure i will be working on it….thxx guys…

ANother point: The New Cisco Lab!! Eski in fer sa pu fer confit??? Ou bien to bizzin ena lak de naisance piti ministre pu to rent la ba?? The truth is that this new lab is like RESERVED!! When student go there…they are told that they dnt have classes here and cannot access! I understand the situation when the lab is undergoing a class…but when its free??? Amoin si banla in fer un nuvo lab la ba zist pu fer un SHOW OFF!!

Well lastly: about your manifesto… sure we are all waiting. And as soon as it become available to the general students.. we will be asking you questions about it. A valid well replied question can mean one more vote for you. A badly answered question or avoiding a question of the students…can mean a vote less for you.
